The Nintendo of America President, chatty Reggie Fils-Aime is famous with this opening line for E3 in 2004. (FYI, Electronic Entertainment Expo,is the biggest games trade show in the world)
After studying whole day about Nintendo history (lucky me, this is part of my job :P) I came to understand the ultimate Reggilation in North America market. I never see myself a great speaker or influncial figure at all, but I am always facsinating to see the marketing stratergy and political sides of many issues we all dealing with everyday.
Nintendo is on their way of making a great come back from a market which used to be their dominance. The new Wii console will soon hit the market like typhoon! By looking at this historical event in gaming world, the same approach taken by Nintendo can be used in our everyday life.
Now the world is all about innovative and IMO innovative is all about taking risks. A stable life is not anymore a way to do thing and live your life; I believe human have bigger capacity to improve and learn a great deal while enjoying the comfort that brought by all these technology shit.
Copy and pirated sure relief the burden of my pocket, but I have seen this unhealthy culture grows everywhere. How long does it take for human to understand we just need one Ipod and we don’t not need to paint the whole world with Ipod white? We don’t need another fake LV bag or another pair of fake Levis. Think about gather the mind all these people who only know how to copy, we might be able to go to Mars, twice.
My job, ironically is about copying, it is about making peripheral products. To deal with my stubborn mind I took Nintendo’s story as a reminder, at least be innovative in the not so innovative world, not to lose my principle.
So what’s the moral? A 94% loss of profit for Sony last fiscal year, and a 6 million Wii on the way to US just for launching. Xbox? Who cares…
Remember Play Station, that was Nintendo’s idea that you guys stole..
